Beneficiaries

The City provides a $25,000 life insurance benefit for full-time employees. Please take this opportunity to make sure that your beneficiary information is current. Forms are available in Human Resources. The City’s retirement plan also requires that employees designate a beneficiary, please make sure that information is also current.


Group Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance Plan

The City of New Orleans ensures all full-time classified and unclassified employees through a Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan. The maximum benefit is $25,000 for all full-time employees (30 hours) of active employment. There is no waiting period and the City pays 100% of the cost. Coverage is not available on spouses or dependents.

To be considered eligible for life conversion coverage, employees must apply for portable coverage and pay the first premium 31 days after the date:
  • Coverage ends when an employee retires from the City.
  • An employee begins working less than the minimum number of hours as described under the Eligible Groups of the plan.
