ID Badge Application Procedures

Detailed information on the MSY security badge procedures (mentioned below), the roles and responsibilities of authorized sponsors, and the MSY security violation program can be found here.

Badging New Employees
 
Step 1 - Fingerprinting
 
** Employees requesting a "Public Badge" are not required to get fingerprinted, but will need to complete an ID badge application and complete the Customer Service Training Class.
 
Send applicant to the Security Badge Office with a:
Completed Badge Applications
  • Two (2) forms of identification (one must have your photo) such as
  • A valid government issued photo identification.
  • All legal residents and/or applicants authorized to work in the United States
  • Company check or Money Order in the amount of $45 (payable to the New Orleans Aviation Board).
States must show employment eligibility documents such as permanent resident card, employment authorization, and visas.

NOTE: Applicant will be photographed and fingerprinted by MSY Security Staff.

Step 2 - Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) Clearance/Security Threat Assessment (STA)

The Airport Security Office staff will contact the authorized signer when results are completed and posted. Fingerprint results may take a minimum of 1 day to a week to post. The Security Threat Assessment results may take up to 2 weeks to post. Applicants may continue to step 3 only when the Security Staff advises the applicant they have been approved for an MSY Badge.

NOTE: Fingerprint results are available for 30 days only. After 30 days the fingerprint results will be discarded.

Step 3 -Training

The applicant must report to the MSY Training Department for Airport Security Training. The Airport Training Office is located in the Main Terminal prior to entering the EXIT side of Concourse C. The classes are currently held  Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (No classes will begin after 3 p.m.)  Contact the Training Center at (504) 303-7790 for any questions regarding scheduling or special needs.

Step 4 - Badging

Send the applicant to the Security Badge Office with a:
  • The training record from the provided by the MSY Airport Trainer
  • A valid government issued photo identification. All legal residents and/or applicants authorized to work in the United States must show employment eligibility documents such as permanent resident card, employment authorization, and visas.
  • All employees are required to pay a $20 initial badge fee.  The Security Badge office accepts Company/Cashier checks or Money Orders, payable to the New Orleans Aviation Board.

Applicant will receive his/her MSY Security Badge.

Re-Badging Current Employees

Current employees are required to renew their ID Badge every year.  This can be completed 30 days prior to the badge expiration date.
 
Step 1 - Training
The should report to the MSY Training Department for Re-Current Training. The Airport Training Office is located in the Main Terminal prior to entering the EXIT side of Concourse C. The classes are currently held  Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (No classes will begin after 3 p.m.).  Contact the Training Center at (504) 303-7790 for any questions regarding scheduling or special needs.

Step 2 - Badging
The employee can then report to the Security Badge Office with a:
  • Training record from the provided by the MSY Airport Trainer
  • A valid government issued photo identification. All legal residents and/or applicants authorized to work in the United States must show employment eligibility documents such as permanent resident card, employment authorization, and visas.
  • If the badge is being renewed after the expiration date, the employee will also need to complete a Lost or Expired ID Badge Form
  • All employees are required to pay a $20 renewal fee ($40 if the badge is expired).  The Security Badge office accepts Company/Cashier checks or Money Orders, payable to the New Orleans Aviation Board.
  • Fingerprints must be resubmitted every two years.  If the employee is required to resubmit their fingerprints there will be an additional $45 fee assessed making the renewal fee $55.
